Chain Maille Collars and Leashes

Chain Maille Collars and Leashes
Fitted chain maille collars for your dogs, cats, and other pets. Chain maille is a highly decorative and extremely strong material for collars and leashes. An ancient art, chain maille has been around for thousands of years. The earliest use of chain maille was of course for armor, and evolved as such, separately, in Japan, Europe, Persia, and Britain. Perhaps the earliest archeological chain maille find has been Celtic or Pict in origin. Each family of chain maille has its own features and peculiarities, but to make it simple we've divided the weaves we use into two categories, round and flat.

Each weave is available in a large array of colors and materials. Raw materials (in decreasing weight order) include copper, enameled copper (huge selection of colors), nickel silver, sterling silver, and fine silver, bright aluminum and anodized aluminum (another large selection of colors), glow-in-the-dark and neoprene (to provide a little stretch), and titanium in it's natural state (a very cool pewter color) as well as anodized titanium, which is much more subtle than the bright enameled copper or anodized aluminum. Hues include reds, pinks, purples, blues, greens, black, white, and all the natural colors of the metals we use. You can see pics of these colors on each item page.

We've found that some round weaves (like that at left) can be "stuffed" with stones, and you can specify which ones you'd like inserted. The example at left is a captive inverted roundmaille, woven of black anodized aluminum and stuffed with carnelian. Some other possibilities for incorporating stones are amethyst, rose quartz, amber, jade, crystal quartz, lapis...any of the stones used in our Claws and Effect Crystal Lock-Its could be used in a collar. It's not necessary to fill the whole collar, either. Sometimes less is more.

Each collar is fitted specifically for your pet before it leaves our shop. All you need to do is measure your pet's existing collar when closed, transmit that info to us when you order, and you'll receive a collar fitted specially for your pet. There is never a charge for fitting. However, it does mean that it takes us about 10 days to complete and ship your pet's personalized collar or leash. If we're adding stones, your pet's collar is made from scratch to your order, and you should allow a few more days for completion.
